Creating an Accessibility Statement

The accessibility statement is used to let people know about the accessibility features of your web product. It should be easy to find, contain information about the standards that you have achieved, and any additional features that you have included to make access easier.

The purpose of the statement is to help disabled and older people get the best experience from the web product so it should be written in a non-technical way that is easy to understand and feature illustrations where necessary.

It should feature:

  • A list of accessibility features that have been added to enhance the experience
  • How to customise the interface
    • Via the product
    • Via the browser or operating system
  • How the product can be personalized
  • The accessibility limitations of the product
  • Information to get in touch with the product support team to lodge suggestions, comments or complaints (e.g. e-mail, or contact form)
  • A summary of the product accessibility policy
  • The date of when the statement was published or updated

Access 8878's accessibility statement conforms to BS 8878
